Local Arts Organizations To Receive Nearly $1.3 Million In Grant Funding Through PNC Arts Alive Initiative
Funding Includes PNC Foundation Support for COVID-19 Arts Aid PHL Fund

PHILADELPHIA, July 30, 2020 – Affordable access to the visual and performing arts, including storytelling through the forms of theatre, dance, poetry, multicultural productions, and even socially distanced arts experiences are among the plans for 36 arts organizations receiving nearly $1.3 million in grants. This support for the region’s arts and cultural sector, primarily provided as part of the PNC Arts Alive initiative, also includes funding from the PNC Foundation for the COVID-19 Arts Aid PHL Fund. This is the 12th PNC Arts Alive grant portfolio and the largest ever in the program’s history.

The PNC Arts Alive initiative will support large and small arts groups across the Greater Philadelphia, Delaware and Southern New Jersey region. The grants cover a wide range of disciplines, audiences and participatory experiences, at a time when nearly all arts organizations are seeking relief from the operational impact that COVID-19 has wrought on the sector.

An additional component that debuted last year, PNC Arts Alive CONNECT, will provide further support for the smaller, community-based arts and culture organizations that typically operate outside of Center City.

“The success of PNC Arts Alive can be seen both in the longevity of the program and in the additional support that PNC Arts Alive CONNECT has directed to neighborhood arts and culture organizations,” said Joe Meterchick, PNC regional president for Philadelphia, Delaware and Southern New Jersey. “In the current environment, when arts funding remains a critical need―we remain committed now, more than ever, to advancing the mission of PNC Arts Alive in new, highly innovative, and socially distanced ways.”

Since its debut in 2009, PNC Arts Alive has provided more than $12 million to support some 275 arts programs at 80 organizations. PNC’s grant supporting the COVID-19 Arts Aid PHL Fund, a joint initiative of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, the Philadelphia Cultural Fund and the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy to assist arts organizations whose operations and programs have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, is part of PNC’s $30 million commitment in charitable support of coronavirus relief efforts nationwide.

PNC Arts Alive is a multi-year initiative of PNC and the PNC Foundation dedicated to supporting visual and performing arts groups with the goal of increasing arts access and engagement in new and innovative ways. The PNC Foundation, which receives its principal funding from The PNC Financial Services Group, actively supports organizations that provide services for the benefit of communities in which it has a significant presence. The foundation focuses its philanthropic mission on early childhood education and community and economic development, which includes the arts and culture.
