The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: PNC) is ranked No. 23 overall in the Money magazine "Corporate America's Best Benefits" survey sent to Fortune 300 companies. PNC's ranking placed it first among banks in the national magazine's annual survey.
The magazine's December 2002 edition, which was available on newsstands Nov. 25, explores what the nation's largest corporations are offering their salaried, nonunion, U.S.-based employees. Money partnered with Milliman USA, an international benefits consulting firm, to create a complex suite of financial tools to rank the companies.
Milliman calls the rankings a "comprehensive listing of benefits offered by America's top corporations and a real dollar assessment of what these benefits are worth to an actual employee." A 100-point scoring system was used to rank companies in the following categories: retirement planning; healthcare benefits; retiree medical benefits; paid-time off; and long-term disability benefits.
PNC, with more than 24,000 employees nationwide, earned high marks for its total benefits package. This includes its leading 401(k) savings plan with a 100 percent match on the first 6 percent, top-tier pension plan and other features, such as adoption assistance, tuition reimbursement and a financial planning web site.
"I'm very proud of the steps we have taken to be a best-of-class employer," said James E. Rohr, chairman and chief executive officer of PNC. "By improving retention of our employees, we've achieved high levels of customer satisfaction due to the excellent service they receive, and come to expect, every day."
PNC has previously been recognized as one of the nation's "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers" by Working Mother magazine (2001). PNC also has been recognized as one of "America's Most Admired Companies" (Fortune magazine) and one of ComputerWorld's "100 Best Places to Work in Information Technology."
The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc., headquartered in Pittsburgh, is one of the nation's largest diversified financial services organizations, providing regional community banking, corporate banking, real estate finance, asset-based lending, wealth management, asset management and global fund services.
