The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Pennsylvania Division, will host its third annual VIP reception to honor Jonathan Newell, assistant vice president, community consultant with PNC Bank, a member of The PNC Financial Services Group.
On July 30 at 6:00 p.m., Rivers Club in downtown Pittsburgh, Newell will be presented with NFTE's Entrepreneurial Spirit Award for his commitment to entrepreneurship and his involvement with NFTE students (ages 11-18) and teachers.
The NFTE Entrepreneurial Spirit Award is given to business or foundation leaders who are not only leaders in their own organizations, but also catalysts in building a stronger community. Previous Pennsylvania winners include: U.S. Senator Arlen Specter, Allegheny County Chief Executive Jim Roddey, PPG Industries Inc. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Raymond LeBoeuf, Eat n' Park Hospitality Group's Director of Corporate Giving Suzy Broadhurst and representatives of Dominion Peoples.
Newell, with PNC Bank since 1989, has been a regular guest speaker to NFTE students about the role and importance of banking. He has also actively mentored many of them as they develop business ideas and write business plans. Newell's interactive approach to the students has set him apart as one of NFTE's outstanding community partners.
In his current role at PNC Bank, Newell acts as a liaison between the low-moderate income communities in western Pennsylvania and local PNC Bank branches.
PNC Bank's vision of building an entrepreneurial community among Pittsburgh's young people makes them an effective partner of NFTE. Since 2000, PNC Bank has brought the NFTE program to Carrick High School, Perry Traditional Academy, and South Vo-Tech High School, enabling over 550 students to participate in field trips, learning activities, business plan competitions, and NFTE's Internet-based curriculum BizTech™.
