PNC Bank, a member of The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: PNC), has entered into an agreement with The Pennsylvania State University to be the exclusive provider of financial services to students, faculty and staff in conjunction with the Penn State id+ Card Office, issuer of the university's official campus identification cards. Customers of PNC Bank, the only bank connected with the Penn State id+ Card program, can "link" their id+ cards to their PNC Bank checking, savings or money market accounts to use the cards at PNC Bank ATMs and to make purchases anywhere MAC/STAR and PLUS are accepted.
PNC Bank is making banking easier by offering the convenience of allowing holders of the Penn State id+ Card to use the same card for banking that they already use for campus-related purposes such as entering residence halls, checking out library materials and accessing meal plans on campus. The id+ card program's banking services are in addition to the PSU Student Plan and WorkPlace Banking programs PNC Bank already makes available to the Penn State community.
As part of the agreement, PNC Bank will install ATMs on 11 Penn State campuses. Four additional PNC Bank ATMs are planned for the University Park campus, boosting to 10 the number of ATMs PNC Bank operates on that campus alone. With more than 3,400 terminals, PNC Bank operates the nation's eighth largest ATM network, of which more than 1,400 are in Pennsylvania.
"The alliance with Penn State is a reflection of PNC Bank's strategy to make banking easier and more convenient for university communities," said Dennis P. Brenckle, president of PNC's Central Pennsylvania region. "Increasing numbers of students, faculty and staff are becoming PNC customers, with a 41 percent increase in PNC Bank Student Plan participation from 2000 to 2001."
"We are pleased that PNC will provide increased service and access on campus," said Gary Schultz, Penn State's senior vice president for Finance and Business/Treasurer. "We believe this alliance will make banking easier and more manageable for the Penn State community, made up of more than 73,000 students and 20,000 employees."
Holders of a Penn State id+ Card can link it to their PNC Bank checking, savings or money market account simply by stopping at a PNC Bank branch or by calling a dedicated customer service number at 1-877-PNC-1000 to make the request.
PNC Bank staffs a customer service area inside the Penn State id+ Card Office on the University Park campus to open accounts, answer questions, link id+ cards to PNC Bank accounts and issue personal identification numbers (PINs) for the cards. Customers also will be able to use a PNC Bank Web station outside the office to access Account Link® by Web at www.pncbank.com to transfer funds between accounts, view transaction histories, change an address and more.
Since October 2001, PNC Bank has offered The Pennsylvania State University (PSU) Student Plan, a package of accounts and other services for student customers that includes a free checking account, a free savings account, a free PNC Bank Check Card that can be used with no transaction fees at PNC Bank ATMs and to make purchases anywhere Visa is accepted and free access to Account Link by Web, PNC Bank's primary online banking channel. In addition, parents of students have the option of linking their PNC Bank account to their child's account for overdraft protection and to transfer funds.
Penn State faculty and staff can also take advantage of WorkPlace Banking, a package of preferably priced financial services and products that includes a free checking account, with direct deposit, and a free savings or money market account. Workplace Banking has also been available at Penn State since last October.
PNC Bank has University Banking relationships with seven other schools in Pennsylvania.
