PNC Bank, a member of The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc., (NYSE: PNC) on Monday was named a winner of the 2002 Pennsylvania Governor's Export Excellence Awards.

The prestigious awards were presented by Gov. Mark Schweiker during a reception in Harrisburg, recognizing the PNC Bank Global Treasury Management team for "encouraging, assisting and guiding Pennsylvania companies as they explore markets and trading opportunities outside of the United States." With global banking experts located throughout the Commonwealth, PNC Bank has been offering products and services to meet the needs of exporters, importers and multi-national corporations throughout the Commonwealth for the past three decades.

"Today, Pennsylvania is a player on the world economic stage thanks in large part to companies like PNC. They are among the outstanding Pennsylvania companies that have helped our Commonwealth to succeed in the global marketplace," Gov. Schweiker said. "PNC plays an important role as Pennsylvania's largest bank as well as an advisor to companies statewide that want to succeed in the international marketplace. Their outstanding efforts have helped to make Pennsylvania a leader among states and a competitor among nations."

"We are extremely proud and honored to be recognized by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for our longstanding effort to support business development and job creation throughout our home state," said James E. Rohr, chairman and chief executive officer of The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. "The global marketplace offers many new opportunities for Pennsylvania companies, both large and small. At PNC, we're doing our part to help businesses conduct cross-border trade."

During the past three years, Pennsylvania exports grew 13.29 percent -- more than twice the national average of 6.3 percent, according to statistics from the U.S. Department of Commerce. PNC Bank is proud to have played a part in supporting this growth by providing export financing and trade facilitation to Pennsylvania companies. In addition, PNC Bank has sponsored or participated in trade workshops across the state and worked closely with the Team PA Export Network and state Department of Community and Economic Development.

"Perceived barriers such as foreign languages, foreign currencies, payment risks and financing can be better navigated when local companies draw upon the expertise and experience available in their own communities through our Global Treasury Management team," said Harry G. Hayman, III, senior vice president, Global Treasury Management at PNC Bank. "We specialize in helping companies of all sizes to improve their competitiveness and to showcase their products in the international marketplace."

In addition to export activities in Pennsylvania, PNC Bank is ranked No. 1 nationwide in transactions for arranging medium-term financing through the Export-Import Bank of the United States.
