The board of directors of The PNC Financial Services Group has elected James E. Rohr as its chairman effective today. Rohr succeeds Thomas H. O'Brien, who had announced his retirement plans in February 2000.
Consistent with the transition plan announced at that time, Rohr, 52, is now chairman, president and chief executive officer of PNC. Rohr was named CEO on May 1, 2000 upon O'Brien's retirement from that position, and he has held the title of president of the diversified financial services company since 1992. Rohr joined the company in 1972.
O'Brien, 64, joined PNC in 1962 and had been chairman since 1988. He plans to continue to serve on PNC's board of directors and was elected to his current one-year term at the company's annual meeting on April 24.
The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: PNC), headquartered in Pittsburgh, is one of the nation's largest diversified financial services organizations, providing community banking, corporate banking, real estate finance, asset-based lending, wealth management, asset management and global fund services.
